Eid al-Adha

Eid al-Adha

Eid al-Adha is an important Muslim holiday, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice or Greater Eid. The festival celebrates the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ishmael to God, before God stopped him and allowed him to sacrifice a ram instead. This sacrifice is re-enacted by many Muslims across the world, however in some countries, such as the UK, the sacrifice must take place in a slaughter house.

The meat from the sacrificial animal is divided into 3 equal parts – one part is kept by the family, one part is given to friends and relatives, and the third part is given to the needy and poor.

This year the holiday takes place between the 16th and 19th of November. You can read more about Eid al-Adha by clicking here.
