NCC Education’s head office is based in Manchester. It is one of Britain’s largest cities, and is the home of Britain’s largest single-site University. It is a thriving, cosmopolitan city, with many events taking place throughout the year, including music, arts and sports.

Manchester’s skyline displays numerous different architectural styles, ranging from early Victorian to contemporary architecture. One of the most noticeable features is the recently built Beetham Tower – which is the largest skyscraper in the UK, outside of London, it includes a Hilton hotel, restaurant and bar, and apartments.

The city centre was badly damaged in 1996 after an IRA bomb. The compensation received from this, along with funding from the 2002 Commonwealth Games spurred an immense redevelopment. Located near the Arndale Centre – the UK’s largest city centre shopping mall, are newly developed buildings such as the Printworks (a large entertainment centre with bars, clubs, a cinema and restaurants) and The Triangle ( a unique shopping mall). The Arndale also had a substantial refurbishment, and extension.

The year 2007 saw the arrival of The Wheel of Manchester, which was transported from Paris – it actually used to be located at the end of the Champs Elysees. This gives visitors a view over Manchester’s unique and ever changing skyline. It also gives a brief history behind some of the famous buildings.

Manchester Cathedral has also been modernised over the years, but was said to have been built in the 15th Century. Strangely there has been some controversy between Sony and the Cathedral. The game Resistance: Fall of Man developed for the PS3 shows virtual combat scenes taking place in a representation of the Cathedral (which is eerily similar).

When talking of Manchester let’s not forget about Manchester United Football Club. With over 50 million supporters across the globe it is one of the most famous football clubs in the world, the other local team Manchester City are however back on the rise, and the competition has never been tougher. Derby matches are certainly eventful!
